Erratic water supply has hit Lusaka’s Matero Township forcing residents to start drawing the commodity from a manhole.

The residents who are appealing for urgent intervention say this trend has been going on for some time now.

They have explained to Diamond News that the water supplied by the water utility company, Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation is contaminated leading to a number of diarrhoea cases.

The water utility company is, however, yet to give a position on why its supply has been erratic.

Zambia is currently experiencing an outbreak of Cholera in six districts and fears are that the disease may spread to other areas such as Lusaka if people do not maintain proper hygiene through drinking safe water and washing hands.
