Some residents of Lusaka’s Garden compound have continued accessing water from unsafe wells, due to lack of piped water.
The residents have told Diamond news that despite making several appeals to authorities for the provision of clean and safe water, nothing has been done.
Their fears are that they may experience an outbreak of cholera in the area as witnessed by increased diarrhoeal cases.
This is happening at a time when Zambia is battling an outbreak of cholera and in the last 24 hours four cases have been recorded.
Of the four, two are from Chipata District of Eastern Province and the other two are from Nchelenge District in Luapula Province, hence the cumulative total of cases is 232 since the outbreak in January, 2023.
