LUSAKA RECORDS HIGHEST HIV PREVALENCE IN ZAMBIA

Lusaka Province has recorded the highest HIV prevalence in the country, according to the Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats).

Acting Statistician General Sheila Mudenda revealed during a townhall meeting in Lusaka on Thursday that 12.1 percent of adults aged 15 to 49 in the province are living with HIV.

The Copperbelt follows at 11.6 percent, while Western and Central provinces stand at 10.4 and 10.3 percent respectively, all above the national average of 8.7 percent.

Paediatric HIV also remains a concern, with 1.2 percent of children aged 2 to 14 living with the virus. Urban areas record a higher prevalence of 1.9 percent, compared to 0.7 percent in rural areas.
