39-year-old Sylvester Musonda Kaumba of Kamwala South has officially been charged and arrested for the alleged offence of unnatural offence contrary to Section 155(1) Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
In a brief statement availed to the media, Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga says the suspect has since been released on bond pending a court appearance.
Mr. Kaumba is accused of sodomising a 29-year-old man of Kamwala South Township who suffers from Down Syndrome, a genetic disorder that affects a person’s chromosomes.
The condition leads to developmental and intellectual delays.
This follows a Facebook post last week by a distressed young woman who made accusations that her uncle was allegedly sodomized by the suspect.
According to information reaching Diamond Media, the family is said to have conducted a medical examination on the victim, but details of the findings have not been released to the public.
