Acting Chairman of the opposition Tonse Alliance, Given Lubinda, says the alliance is determined that one day in the future, the remains of former President Edgar Lungu will be buried in Zambia.
Speaking at a press briefing held in South Africa on Thursday, June 26, 2025, Mr. Lubinda thanked the South African government for allowing the country to store the mortal remains of Mr. Lungu until his eventual burial.
On Wednesday, the Pretoria High Court halted Mr. Lungu’s burial in South Africa after the Zambian government filed an urgent application supporting the repatriation of his body.
Through a consent order, the court ruled that Mr. Lungu’s burial will be put on hold until the court determines the matter on August 4, 2025.
Meanwhile, at the same briefing, Tonse Alliance Spokesperson Sean Tembo questioned why the Zambian government only filed the court application a day before the planned burial of Mr. Lungu.
