Lumezi District Commissioner (DC) Jimmy Phiri has been arrested for the alleged theft of 271 by 50 kilogram bags of white maize.

Accoding to the Police Deputy Spokesperson, Danny Mwale, 160 bags by 50kgs have been recovered and investigations have intensified.

The alleged offence is said to have occured on February 24, 2023 in Chikomeni area of Lumezi District in Eastern Province.

Police in Lundazi have since charged Jimmy Phiri, aged 50, for Abuse of Authority of Office contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

Mr. Phiri has also been jointly charged and arrested together with two Food Reserve Agency (FRA) Depot Clerks identified as Mubanga Musoma, aged 23, and Masiye Mbewe, aged 46, all based at Chikomeni FRA Holding Depot for the offence of Theft by Public Servant contrary to section 277 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

The suspects are detained in Police custody awaiting court appearance.
