A 2-year-old boy has been burnt to death after minors set the field near the house on fire while hunting for mice locally known as Mbewa in Lumezi District of Eastern Province.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Limpo Liywalii has confirmed the incident to Diamond News.

Details of the matter are that three children aged 11, 9 and 2 years of the same family went in the field which is near the house looking for mice around 10:00 hours whilst the mother, Margret Zulu, was busy cleaning the house.

The elderly children set the field on fire not knowing that the 2-year-old boy had followed them and suddenly heard a child crying in the field and went to inform the mother, Margret Zulu to find out who was crying.

The mother found the child burning and managed to put off the burning clothes, and then attempted to take the child to the nearest clinic but he died on the way.
