The government has noted with concern that only 20 percent of the total working population is registered on the NAPSA pension scheme.

Out of the two-point three million employees in the country, slightly over one-point eight million who are mostly in the informal sector are not captured in the NAPSA scheme.

NAPSA Southern Region Manager Tepeya Phiri says the aforementioned statistics have prompted the National Pensions Scheme Authority (NAPSA), National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA) and Workers’ compensation Fund Control Board to collectively target to bring 250,000 members on their schemes by 2026.

Mr. Phiri has also encouraged eligible beneficiaries countrywide to exercise patience as they attempt to withdraw twenty percent of their benefits saying there is enough money for everyone who qualifies to withdraw.
