Authorities in Mongu District of Western Province have confirmed an outbreak of the African migratory locust in several communities.
The affected areas include Katongo, Sefula, Lealui Lower, Boma, Lealui Upper in Mongu Central, and Nakato Farming Camp in Nalikwanda Constituency.
Mongu District Commissioner Morgan Akabeswa said the locust invasion in the first five areas has begun to subside following recent rainfall, which has disrupted the swarms.
He further revealed that a team of agriculture officers has been dispatched to Nakato Farming Camp to assess the extent of the damage caused by the pests.
Mr. Akabeswa stated that the results of the ongoing investigation will be communicated to the public once the assessment is complete.
