The Zambian Association of Citizen Contractor (ZACCO) has appealed to government to expedite the process of dismantling debt owed to local contractors.

Association President Mutale Mpepo says it is worrying that instead of negotiating with the contractors, many are being called criminals and incompetent.

And Mr. Mpepo adds that the termination and halting of feeder road contracts has slowed down economic activities in the construction industry with some contractors laying off workers.

Recently, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development terminated a total of 197 feeder roads contracts, out of the 240 countrywide valued at over K10 billion.
