Livingstone District Commissioner Eunice Nawa is among residents whose homes were damaged by overnight flooding, with her house being one of three affected in Dambwa North.
The heavy late-night rains also destroyed fences at several nearby houses.
DC Nawa and other affected residents have attributed the damage to a narrow drainage system, which has consistently disrupted the flow of water into the Dambwa Stream.
Zambia’s Southern Province has been severely impacted by ongoing rains that have damaged infrastructure and displaced more than a thousand families. Monze District has been the worst affected.
The government has since provided tents and other relief supplies to displaced families and has promised emergency support to repair damaged crossing points.
