LCC SEIZES 27 GAMBLING MACHINES TO PROTECT CHILDREN

.

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has confiscated 27 gambling machines, locally known as “Bonanzas,” during an enforcement operation in Kabanana and Garden compounds

According to LCC Assistant Public Relations Manager Bulumba Nyambe, the operation is part of ongoing efforts to enforce a 2024 directive that prohibits placing gambling machines in markets and shops accessible to children.

The inspection, conducted in partnership with the State Police, will be extended citywide.

The Council expressed concern over the increasing presence of gambling machines in unauthorized areas, which has led to school dropouts and rising youth addiction.

Business owners have been urged to relocate these machines to designated areas or face further enforcement actions.
