The Lusaka City Council (LCC) is considering purchasing over 60 hectares of land in Chongwe’s Mikango area for burial site.

And the local authority has encouraged the public to consider cremation as space is running out in the cemeteries.

CC Director of Public Health Victor Kagoli says cemeteries are a danger to public health as they have the potential to contaminate ground water, among others.

Diamond Media visited Chingwere and Leopards Hill Cemeteries where mourners have continued to bury their loved ones in small spaces between old graves.
