A combined team of the Lusaka City Council, Ministry of Health and the Zambia Police have destroyed assorted items confiscated from various places in Lusaka.

Among them is Alcohol worth 97,000 Kwacha and food items worth 22,000 Kwacha.

LCC Public Health Director Victor Kagoli says this operation is in line with the directive by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Gary Nkombo to bring to a stop the sale, distribution and consumption of alcohol.

He says other food staffs confiscated are of low integrity and continued to be on the shelves sold to unsuspecting people in Lusaka .

And, Ministry of Health Chief Environmental Officer Doreen Sakala has advised the public to be on high alert when buying food items as many are expired while others are labeled in foreign languages which is dangerous.

She says such foods have negative effects on the health of people and as World Food Safety is commemorated under the theme Food Standard Save Life the public must be protected at all times.
