LAZ CHALLENGES ACTING AUDITOR GENERAL’S STAY IN CONSTITUTIONAL COURT

.

The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) says it is returning to the Constitutional Court over the matter of the illegal Acting Auditor General, following the government’s failure to address constitutional concerns.

LAZ initially petitioned the court in March 2025, challenging the appointment of Acting Auditor General Ron Mwambwa, arguing that it did not meet constitutional requirements.

According to LAZ, the appointment lacked parliamentary ratification and did not follow State Audit Commission recommendations, as Mwambwa exceeded the prescribed age limit.

The association discontinued the petition after the government agreed to regularize the situation, including appointing a substantive Auditor General and issuing commencement orders.

However, the government has not fulfilled these undertakings, and Mwambwa continues to act and draw benefits, prompting LAZ to seek judicial guidance.

LAZ President Lungisani Zulu has emphasized that the move defends constitutionalism, accountability, and the rule of law, amid concerns about public confidence in oversight institutions.
