Kisasa Primary School in Kisasa area of Kalumbila District has recorded an increase in the number of pupils reporting for classes compared to last week, when fear and uncertainty forced many families to flee into the bush with their children.
The low attendance followed police investigations and screening in the area after the death of Eneless Hellen Kamutumbe, aged 46, who was allegedly killed by a mob on 20th March 2026 on suspicions of witchcraft, after claims that she had made a man’s private parts disappear.
In an interview with Diamond Media, Kisasa Primary School Deputy Head Teacher Mulambya Musenga says as of Monday, 30th March 2026, the school had recorded 1,082 pupils reporting for classes.
Mr. Musenga says this is a significant improvement compared to last week, when only 45 pupils out of the school’s total enrollment of 3,975 learners had reported for lessons.
He, however, appeals to parents and guardians who are still hiding in fear to return to their homes so that children can continue with their education without further disruption.
And police have continued with investigations and the screening of 282 suspects currently in custody in connection with the death of Eneless Hellen Kamutumbe.
The suspects are expected to be charged with offences of murder, assault on police, Damage to property and Riotous behavior once investigations are concluded and those found wanting are formally linked to the alleged mob attack.
