Losing Lusaka mayoral candidate Gabriel Kibombwe has agreed to withdraw his election petition challenging the election of Mayor-Elect Chitambala Mwewa.
The development was disclosed before the Local Government Elections Tribunal after the parties entered into a consent agreement to discontinue the matter by mutual agreement.
Mr. Kibombwe had been seeking a declaration that Mr. Mwewa’s election was null and void after the two polled 195,041 and 200,029 votes respectively.
The Tribunal has granted leave for the withdrawal application to proceed in line with the Local Government Elections Tribunal Rules, with the parties having filed a joint notice of intention to withdraw the petition.
The court is yet to give a ruling on the application
