Residents of Kasupe Township in Lusaka are demanding the immediate closure of the Golden Eagle recycling plant, accusing it of releasing toxic gases that pose a serious health risk.
They allege that the emissions have caused widespread respiratory problems in the community, including chest pains affecting both adults and children.
At Columbus Secondary School, located near the plant, a student reportedly fainted in class due to the strong fumes. School authorities say the learning environment has been severely disrupted.
The Golden Eagle plant, which recycles plastic, has only been operational for three months. Residents are urging the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) to take decisive action.
