Lawyers representing Lusaka businessman, Shadreck Kasanda, have accused State House of allegedly using their client as a scapegoat in the Gold Gate scandal.
Mr. Kasanda, through his lawyer, Makebi Zulu Advocates, says some well-known State House personnel is behind the whole ordeal, and after the scandal, the same people accompanied the Republican President to Angola but have not been questioned nor arrested.
In a letter addressed to the Attorney General, Kasanda has described President Hakainde Hichilema’s press conference on the matter as prejudicial.
The businessman says he gave information to investigative wings in good faith as a whistleblower but the State’s action to proceed to arrest and charge him is a breach of the protection of Whistleblowers Act.
Mr. Kasanda is now demanding to be released and all the charges to be dropped with immediate effect or he proceeds to sue the State.
Recently, President Hakainde Hichilema held a press briefing that mostly dealt with the matter and assured the nation that the perpetrators will face the wrath of the law.
