Kasama Mayor Theresa Kolala has died after seeking medical attention at Chilubula Mission Hospital in the early hours of today.
The Northern Province administration has confirmed the development, describing her passing as a significant loss to the region.
Northern Province Permanent Secretary Bernard Mpundu said funeral and burial arrangements will be communicated in due course.
Meanwhile, the Patriotic Front (PF) leadership has described the news as devastating, noting that Ms. Kolala’s death leaves a substantial void both in the party and in civic leadership.
Northern Province PF Chairperson Chomba Chipili said the late mayor was known for her hard work and commitment in all roles she served.
Ms. Kolala was serving her first term as Kasama Mayor and was expected to recontest the seat in 2026.
