Barely a fortnight after a headteacher of Gwembe District drowned after two boats collided on Lake Kariba, a decomposed body has been found floating.
According to Kkota-Kkota Ward Councillor Edward Gama, 37-year old Paul Haboombe died last Sunday when a banana boat he was on with two others got stuck on a tree around 23:00 hours.
Mr Gama says it was during the desperate moments that the boat began taking in water, hence it sunk.
He says, two of his colleagues managed to swim to safety but Haboombe could not make it.
The victim’s remains have since been picked by authorities.
In May 2023 alone, five people have drowned on Africa’s largest man-made lake shared with Zimbabwe, the deaths are common in Zambia due to an underdeveloped marine transport.
