
A bus carrying Kabwe Rangers Football Club players was involved in a fatal road accident on Sunday, March 16, that left the driver dead and five club officials and players injured.
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Central Province has confirmed the incident in a statement issued by provincial chairperson Chisanga Pule, who says the accident claimed the life of the hired bus driver, Sam Lungu.
According to Pule, the team had travelled to Serenje to play a Week 25 Division Two Zone ‘B’ fixture against Silverlands.
Those injured in the accident are players Christopher Musakanya, Given Sichamba and John Kombe, as well as coach Lewis Nkandu and club secretary Karen Namukoko.
Pule explains that he, together with FAZ Central Province General Secretary Maxwell Shaba, rushed to the accident scene and later visited the injured victims at Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital.
He has conveyed condolences to the family of the deceased driver and wished the injured players, coach, and club secretary a quick recovery.
Police are expected to release further details regarding the cause of the accident.
