JUDICIAL SERVICE COMMISSION ADVERTISES JUDICIAL VACANCIES

.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has advertised judicial vacancies in the Zambia Daily Mail newspaper, inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to be considered for appointment to fill twenty (20) positions in the Superior Courts (High Court and Court of Appeal).

The commission has cited Article 140 of the Constitution as the basis for these appointments.

According to the advertisement, the Judiciary states that the purpose of the job is to ensure that judicial authority in the Republic of Zambia is exercised in accordance with Article 118 of the Constitution.

Several civil society organizations, including Chapter One Foundation, the Alliance for Community Action (ACA), and Transparency International Zambia (TIZ), have welcomed the move.

In a joint statement, Chapter One Foundation Executive Director Josiah Kalala stated that the commission’s decision demonstrates a commitment to transparency—a cornerstone for building public trust in the Zambian judiciary and ensuring the credibility of judicial appointments.

.

He says transparency is not merely procedural but directly enhances public confidence in the judiciary’s impartiality and integrity.

Mr. Kalala has since urged the Commission to uphold openness at every stage of the selection process, including the recommendation stage.
