Former Minister of Finance Katele Kalumba who was last month jailed for corruption, has been admitted to the University Teaching Hospital for a recurring chronic condition.

Confirming the development to Diamond TV in a telephone interview, Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Lackson Kasonka has described Dr. Kalumba’s condition as not stable following his long-term illness.

Last month, the Supreme Court upheld the conviction of Dr. Kalumba and his three co-accused who were sentenced to a five-year jail term by the Lusaka High Court.

The December 2022 judgement sparked debate in some quarters of society that felt the sentence was harsh since the case had taken almost two decades.
