Some residents of Livingstone have commended the government for curtailing illegal Mukanda initiation activities for boys.

On Monday, a joint operation of several stakeholders including the Gender Division, Zambia Police, and Livingstone City Council rescued 48 boys after raiding the camp.

Reacting to the development, a senior citizen, Phineas Munene has told Diamond News that the closure is long overdue as the children were being exposed to high public health risks.

However, Diamond News has also monitored some social media comments that have frowned on the move to close the camp, urging the government to refrain from interfering in traditional matters.
