Leadership Movement-LM candidate for Kwacha Constituency Prof. Oliver Silumbe has dispelled social media assertions that he has withdrawn from the by-election in Kitwe.
Diamond Media Reporter Rogan Labika says the opposition candidate has rubbished the article as mere false alarm.
This is happening hours after Kabushi independent candidate Alfred Yombwe withdrew from the race citing alleged intimidation by his opponents in Ndola.
The matter has fuelled social media debate on the Constitutional provisions that spell out circumstances when a candidate either dies, resigns or is disqualified.
Yombwe’s case has become a subject of endless discussion in some quarters of society regarding precedence where an independent candidate Charity Lumpa in 2016 withdrew from an election which compelled the Electoral Commission of Zambia-ECZ to hold fresh nominations for a parliamentary seat.
The current confusion is happening three days before ballots are cast in the Luangwa, Kabushi and Kwacha By-Elections.
