HH DIRECTS GOVT AGENCIES TO INVESTIGATE FUEL HOARDING

.

President Hakainde Hichilema has directed the Energy Regulation Board and law enforcement agencies to immediately investigate suspected fuel hoarding following reports of shortages across the country.

The President has warned that any entities found manipulating fuel supply will face stern action, including possible revocation of licences, describing such practices as economic sabotage and a violation of existing laws.

Mr. Hichilema says the current fuel shortages are concerning, especially after Oil Marketing Companies recently assured him during a meeting at State House that the country has sufficient fuel stocks to meet domestic demand.

While acknowledging global supply challenges linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the President has maintained that Zambia has adequate fuel reserves.

He has since instructed relevant authorities to move swiftly on the ground to enforce compliance and ensure the steady supply of fuel, which he describes as critical to the functioning of the economy.

The directive has been confirmed in a statement issued by State House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka.
