HEAVY DOWNPOUR DAMAGES LIVINGSTONE’S MARAMBA – LIBUYU BRIDGE

.

A heavy downpour has caused a huge damage to the Maramba – Libuyu Bridge, one of Livingstone’s busiest crossing points, raising serious safety concerns for residents in Southern Zambia.

The strong water flow has damaged the bridge’s support structure, particularly putting pedestrians at risk.

Users who spoke to Diamond have blamed authorities for failing to elevate the bridge, despite repeated flooding in the area.

Although no fatalities have been recorded so far, there is growing fear that delays in repairing the bridge could lead to loss of life, especially as heavy rains continue.

The downpour has also damaged the main water supply line to Libuyu, leaving thousands of residents without access to clean water.

Both pedestrians and motorists are currently using the facility with caution.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
