Gwembe Member of Parliament Tyson Simuzingili has strongly condemned the recent wave of shootings in Gwembe and surrounding areas, describing the acts as barbaric, evil, and primitive.
Speaking to a Diamond News reporter in Southern Province, Mr. Simuzingili said he is working closely with law enforcement agencies to implement interventions aimed at ending the escalating violence.
The lawmaker also appealed to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to intensify sensitization efforts by reaching remote communities in the valley.
He said such initiatives should focus on peaceful conflict resolution and discourage communities from resorting to mob justice.
Meanwhile, a source who requested anonymity revealed that the recent killing of 69-year-old Clement Chifumpu of Chifumpu Village under Chief Chipepo may be linked to unresolved community disputes.
The source said the victim had previously been accused of practicing witchcraft and allegedly continued despite warnings.
Mr. Simuzingili’s remarks follow the brutal killing of Mr. Chifumpu, who was shot multiple times in the chest by unknown assailants in what police suspect could be a revenge attack.
