Government is expected to remove tax waivers on petroleum products by September 2022, month end.

The measure is part of the International Monetary Fund structural benchmarks meant to eliminate implicit subsidies on fuel.

Ministry of Finance Permanent Secretary Budgets and Economic Affairs, Mukuli Chikuba, says the reinstatement of VAT and excise duty is meant to make fuel procurement cost reflective.

Mr. Chikuba was speaking during a capacity building workshop on the Extended Credit Facility from the International Monetary Fund.
