Government has for the month of May 2023 channeled 7 billion kwacha to dismantle domestic and external debt from the total of 14.9 billion kwacha released in May 2023.
According to the May 2023 Budget Performance statement, Minister of Finance and National Planning Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane says 1.2 billion kwacha was spent to dismantle arrears owed to suppliers of goods & services.
Dr. Musokotwane adds that 688.2 million kwacha was spent towards the implementation of various developmental programmes and general operations while 314.9 million kwacha for road infrastructure.
He adds that during the month under review, 3.7 billion kwacha was spent on the public service wage bill while 1.9 billion kwacha went to transfers, subsidies and social benefits.
Of the 1.9 billion kwacha under the transfers and subsidies category, 731 million kwacha was spent towards the Social Cash Transfer programme, 266 million kwacha was channeled to operations of hospitals and other government grant aided institutions among others.
