The Government has through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development disbursed K256 million in capital grants to 95 town councils, as part of the Zambia Devolution Support Programme (ZDSP), a government-led initiative supported by the World Bank.

Local Government Permanent Secretary for Administration Maambo Haamaundu, says that the government has further released K22 million to complete the renovations of Lusaka City Market, in efforts to address safety concerns about the structural integrity of the building.

Mr Hamaaundu has revealed that the project, initially delayed due to contractual and bureaucratic issues, is now expected to be completed within a few weeks.

He says, the Government is expected to spend K3 million in education on the development of secondary school infrastructure, that will include the construction of 35 new schools across the country adding that the government is also collaborating with the private sector to promote local manufacturing and business growth.
