Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana says the government is concerned about civil servants engaging in partisan politics ahead of the August 13, 2026 General Election.
Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka, Mr. Kawana acknowledged the government’s concern saying such conduct is against the public service code of ethics and may result in dismissal.
but declined to provide further details.
His remarks come after Zambia’s Ambassador to South Korea, Andrew Banda, publicly said he had returned to Zambia to campaign for President Hakainde Hichilema, arguing that he would lose his job if the President’s main challenger, Brian Mundubile, won the election.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kawana dismissed claims that nationwide load-shedding has resumed, saying the power outages being experienced in some areas are the result of faults caused by vandalism.
He also rejected opposition claims that they introduced free education, maintaining that the policy was introduced under President Hakainde Hichilema.
