GOVERNMENT LIFTS FAZ FUNDING SUSPENSION

.

Government has uplifted the suspension of funding to the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) for the men’s senior national team after the association submitted a roadmap on how it intends to improve the team’s performance.

The suspension was lifted after FAZ responded to concerns raised by the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts regarding the poor performance of the senior men’s national team.

The ministry had suspended funding in October 2025 and later asked FAZ to provide detailed information outlining its plans to improve results at national team level.

Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Principal Public Relations Officer Bobby Ncimunya Ngandu has told Diamond Sports that FAZ had been given a short ultimatum of about one to two weeks to respond and submit a clear roadmap.

After reviewing the submission, government decided to uplift the suspension and has since resumed supporting the men’s senior national team, especially ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Meanwhile, government support to FAZ is limited to the senior men’s and women’s national teams under the existing Memorandum of Understanding between the two parties, and not to developmental teams.

However, Ng’andu says competitions organised by FAZ, such as the Four Nations Men’s Tournament, remain the responsibility of the association unless government support is requested.
