GOVERNMENT HAS NO INTENTIONS OF REINTRODUCING BILL 7 IN TODAY’S PARLIAMENT SITTING

.

Government has urged the public to dismiss any insinuations or fears suggesting that Bill 7 will be reintroduced in today’s emergency sitting of Parliament, scheduled for 2nd October 2025.

Minister of Information and Media, Cornelius Mweetwa, clarified that Cabinet has not met to review the status of the deferred Bill 7.

He explaines that if the Bill were to be reconsidered, Cabinet would first deliberate and make a decision, after which the public would be duly informed.

He emphasized that it is misleading for anyone to claim that government would attempt to sneak in the Bill during this or any other sitting.

The Minister further expressed concern over the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) issuing public statements on the matter without prior consultation with government, warning that such actions could have serious implications.

.

He also cautioned those intent on misleading the public to desist from spreading false information.

Meanwhile, Government Chief Whip, Stafford Mulusa, stated that today’s sitting is solely meant to consider the ratification of the President’s appointment of the Human Rights Commission Board and has nothing to do with Bill 7.
