GOVERNMENT EXTENDS FUEL TAX RELIEF BY 90 DAYS

.

The Government has extended the temporary suspension of excise duty on petrol and diesel, as well as the zero-rating of Value Added Tax (VAT) on diesel products, for a further 90 days.

Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana says the extension, which takes effect from 1 July to 30 September 2026, has been implemented through Treasury instruments issued under the Customs and Excise Act and the Value Added Tax Act.

He says the decision is aimed at continuing to cushion consumers and businesses from high fuel costs while helping to stabilize pump prices.

The measure also seeks to lessen the impact of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, which continues to put upward pressure on global oil prices.

The Government says it remains committed to implementing targeted interventions that protect livelihoods, support economic activity, and maintain macroeconomic stability and energy security as Zambia continues to navigate external shocks affecting the global economy.
