The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has called for an immediate end to all forms of illegality at Simon Mwewa Lane Market.
Speaking during a tour of the market this morning, Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Nicholas Phiri, says the ongoing subletting scheme at the facility is unacceptable and warned that such practices will not be tolerated.
Mr. Phiri has urged council police to intensify enforcement efforts and ensure that all traders operating illegally within the market premises are removed without delay.
The Permanent Secretary also expressed concern over delays in the completion of the Lumumba Road drainage project and challenged the local contractors involved in the works to expedite the project to meet the stipulated deadlines.
