Government has announced its intention to buy soya beans at K6 per kilogramme in this year’s crop marketing season.
Speaking at the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) event in Katete District of Eastern Province, agency Board Chairperson Kelvin Hambwanzya says just like maize, the crop will be given priority for restocking its reserves.
The announcement is a sigh of relief for soya beans farmers, weeks after FRA had disclosed that it had insufficient funds to purchase the product from growers.
FRA’s stance had sent farmers into panic because they feared minus the agency private buyers would exploit them.
