FOUR WOMEN DIE OF CERVICAL CANCER IN LIVINGSTONE SINCE JANUARY

.

The Livingstone University Teaching Hospital has recorded four deaths linked to cervical cancer since January 2026.

Hospital authorities have also revealed that the facility has been admitting between eight and nine cancer patients every month during the same period, highlighting a growing burden of the disease.

Senior Medical Officer, Dr. Andrew Muyombu, told Diamond News that although there has been increased community awareness and response to cancer, delayed diagnosis remains a major challenge.

Dr. Muyombu has since called for strengthened collaboration among stakeholders in the fight against cancer, emphasizing the critical role of the media in raising awareness.

Meanwhile, Livingstone Mayor Constance Muleabai has urged members of the public to prioritize routine cancer screening in order to prevent late detection and related complications.
