Former First Lady Esther Lungu has been formally charged and arrested by Zambia’s Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) on allegations of obtaining properties suspected to be proceeds of crime, with an estimated value of over K4.8 million. The DEC has been investigating this case, which brings forth accusations that the properties acquired by Mrs. Lungu may have connections to illicit financial activities.

The arrest was confirmed by her lawyer, Charles Changano, who stated that Mrs. Lungu has since been released on bond while awaiting her scheduled court appearance. Further details on the case and upcoming legal proceedings are anticipated as the situation unfolds, with possible implications for the ongoing anti-corruption measures in Zambia.
