Police in Lusaka have arrested former first lady Esther Lungu on charges of theft of motor vehicles.

In May this year, police had questioned the former first lady in relation to the theft of a motor vehicle and certificate of title for a property in Lusaka’s Libala south area.

This was after a Lusaka resident, Elizabeth Phiri, and her daughter, furhana Patel, complained that the former first lady grabbed their vehicles namely Mitsubishi canter, Toyota Runx and Toyota Alex.

Ms. Phiri is also alleged to have been detained at a police station and later driven to the residence of the former first lady where she was together with her daughter made to surrender the said properties.

The former first lady is yet to be released on bond pending her court appearance and the police are yet to issue a statement.
