Former First Lady, Esther Lungu, has appealed the forfeiture of her 15 double-storey flats to the state, valued at over K61 million.
The flats are located in Lusaka’s State Lodge area.
Recently, the Economic and Financial Crimes Court ordered the forfeiture of the properties due to their alleged connection to economic crime, following an application filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Gilbert Phiri.
In its judgment, the court ruled that she had no known income to justify the acquisition of the properties in question.
Dissatisfied with the court’s decision, the former First Lady has filed seven grounds of appeal, accusing the lower court of having erred in law and fact by deciding to forfeit the properties without considering her evidence.
