The parents of a 16-year-old boy from Nkabika Compound in Mazabuka District, Southern Province, are deeply concerned about their son’s health, as he has been living with a bullet lodged in his chest for the past five years.
According to the parents, the incident occurred during the period of widespread gassing incidents in the country.
On the fateful night, while the boy was sleeping around midnight, a bullet from an unknown firearm pierced through the roof and struck him in the chest.
She further explained that when the incident first occurred, hospital authorities informed them that the bullet was lodged in a delicate position and could not be removed.
The only advice given was to bring the boy back to the hospital whenever he experienced pain.
A recent X-ray conducted last Friday confirmed that the bullet has remained in the same position, raising further concerns about the boy’s long-term health.
His mother is now appealing to the government for intervention and clearer guidance on his medical condition.
The boy, who is currently in Grade 10 at a school in Mazabuka, continues to live with uncertainty about his health and future.
