A 24-year-old fisherman of Shimungalu fishing camp in Mazabuka District, Emmanuel Mwansa, has been jailed to 35 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a three (3) year old girl on March 11th, 2022.
Livingstone High Court judge, Catherine Lombe Phiri, sitting in Mazabuka says the state adduced evidence beyond reasonable doubt that the convict defiled the victim.
She says there was need to sentence the convict to 35 years to deter would be offenders.
But in his mitigation, the convict had asked the court to give him a lesser sentence for being a first offender.
