The world football governing body FIFA will for the first time offer grants to women’s football clubs across the world that will contribute players to their national teams set to compete at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Football Association of Zambia President Andrew Kamanga revealed this during the Zambia Premier League consultation meeting held on Thursday morning.

The decision was arrived at during the FIFA congress held in Rwanda, in March 2023.

This will be in addition to the $960,000 which the Zambian FA has received from FIFA as a preparatory grant for the World Cup.

FAZ will also support the women’s clubs with an undisclosed token of appreciation for their effort in the league which is yet to attract sponsorship.

And Zambia Premier League Manager Brian Mulenga has urged clubs to create space in their stadia for sponsorship such as adverts on bill boards, as a step towards commercializing the league.

The Zambia women’s national team will have three friendlies during the international camp in June, before the final member squad for the world cup is announced.
