The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has been given 21 days by world football governing body FIFA to reconvene its elective Annual General Meeting (AGM).
This follows the abrupt cancellation of the original meeting, which was scheduled for 29 March, due to a court injunction.
FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga confirmed in a statement today that FIFA has issued formal guidance, advising that the AGM be held no later than 10 May 2025.
The meeting is expected to take place in Lusaka or a nearby location, in line with Article 21, Paragraph 3 of the FAZ Constitution, which outlines the timeframe for such gatherings.
In a letter to FAZ, FIFA’s Chief Member Associations Officer, Elkhan Mammadov, expressed concern over the High Court injunction that halted the AGM in Livingstone just hours before it was due to begin. He reiterated that further involvement of ordinary courts in football matters could lead to sanctions from FIFA.
Mammadov also confirmed that FIFA will send observers to the reconvened AGM, just as it did for the original Congress in Livingstone, to ensure the meeting is conducted in line with football regulations.
With FIFA’s guidance now received, FAZ is expected to issue a formal notice for the reconvened meeting, as required by its constitution.
