The Football Association of Zambia is expected to name a third-choice goalkeeper for the World Cup bound Copper Queens in the next 24hrs to replace injured first choice goalkeeper, Hazel Nali.
Speaking in an interview on Thursday’s Diamond Breakfast, FAZ Media Officer, Mike Mubanga, says background discussions are underway to decide which goalkeeper will replace Nali in order for travel arrangements to be made before the commencement of the World Cup.
The Zambian FA announced the end of Nali’s FIFA World Cup journey on Wednesday, 24th July, 2023, following an injury she sustained prior to the Germany victory during the Copper Queens’ European camp.
The yet to be announced replacement will join second choice goalkeeper Catherine Musonda and third choice Eunice Sakala.
Meanwhile, the Zambia Women’s National Team is aiming to reach the finals of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup set to run from 20th July to 20th August, 2023.
Captain Barbara Banda says the team will first have to proceed from the group stage to the second and third rounds of the tournament in order to fight for a spot in the finals.
