Fatal Truck Accident: 4 Dead After Overturn on Chirundu–Kafue Road

.

Tragedy struck early on Sunday, January 11, 2026, when four men lost their lives in a horrific road traffic accident along the Chirundu–Kafue Road in Zambia’s Kapiringozi area.

Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi confirmed the incident occurred around 07:30 hours. It involved an Iveco truck loaded with building materials, en route to Chirundu. The vehicle was driven by 45-year-old Emmanuel Shanyinde of Chipata Compound, Lusaka, with three male passengers on board.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve due to excessive speed, causing the truck to veer off the road, plunge into a ditch, and overturn violently. All four occupants, the driver and his three passengers, sustained fatal injuries and died instantly at the scene.

The bodies have been transported to Mtendere Mission Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examinations and further identification procedures. Police investigations into the incident continue.

This devastating crash serves as a grim reminder of the dangers on Zambia’s major transport corridors, especially on winding sections like Kapiringozi, where speeding remains a leading cause of fatal accidents involving heavy goods vehicles. Authorities continue to urge drivers to observe speed limits, maintain vehicle control, and prioritize road safety amid rising traffic volumes.
