Like clockwork, every morning in Chipata, some farmers have resorted to picking snails and boiling them in hot water in an effort to help save their crops.

This is due to a snail invasion on the farms of Chitsitu Camp in Chipata, Eastern Province.

About eight fields which have been visited by Diamond Media reveal severe attacks by snails on several acres of groundnuts, soya beans, maize and sunflower fields.

Agriculture experts in the district are assessing the extent of the damage and number of farmers who have been affected.

Masupe Ward Councillor Johnstone Silungwe has called on government to quickly find a solution and help farmers protect their crops to avoid hunger.
