The 13 victims who were abducted in the infamous Pamela Chisumpa and 12 others case have echoed their fears after media reports claimed their abductors had escaped from prison.
A mother to one of the victims who cannot be named due to security concerns says even though authorities have clarified that the suspects are in jail, the rumour has distressed her daughter who is still suffering from trauma.
However, on Friday, March 10, 2023, the Zambia Correctional Service dispelled reports purporting that one of the suspects in the abduction case of Pamela Chisumpa and 12 others recently escaped.
In a statement, Public Relations Officer Gillian Namungula says all the alleged hostage-takers are in confinement and accounted for.
Earlier on Friday during the Vice President’s Question Time in Parliament, a lawmaker demanded clarity on the matter, but deputy speaker Malungo Chisangano advised that instead Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Jack Mwiimbu issues a ministerial statement next Thursday, March 16, 2023.
22-year-old Mobile Money Booth operator Pamela Chisumpa and 12 other young women were rescued on 3rd October 2022 from a house in Chalala of Lusaka after protracted investigations that led to the arrest of the three suspects, days later.
